Art of the week: Rubric Marines

The Thousand Sons were a magic-heavy legion, with most members having at least some psychic ability. After the tragic events of the Horus Heresy, the legion found itself cast adrift, and losing ever more members to the mutations of chaos. Ahriman of the Thousand Sons cast a rubric intended to fix this, but the ways of chaos are never straightforward.

His fellow sorcerers were protected, but the rank and file marines were turned into animated dust within their armour. Devoid of reason or independence, these rubric marines’ rely of sorcerers to direct them. An effective fighting force, but not the one Ahriman intended.

The art above comes from Paul Dainton.

Always loved the idea behind these, and the imagery. Would love to do an army of them, but I have too many armies already.

They were on my ‘one day’ list for a long time too, until I realised the day would never come.
