At the start of the year I decided to see how long I could keep posting something each day, with a view to seeing if I could get to a 100-day streak.
Yesterday I got my notification:
It hasn’t been the 100 days I expected though – my most popular post by far, in terms of both views and comments, was my post immediately following WordPress’ sudden and unannounced plan changes. The repercussions of this are ongoing, and I am likely to post some updates myself over the coming days.
In term of painting hobby, the core purpose of this blog, I have started my final tray, and I hope to keep the week-end updates coming along for everyone. The end is in sight, now I just have to get there.
Posting every day has been an interesting experience, and my only self-rule has been not to post anything I thought was frivolous or spammy. The main discipline has been trying to not post too much of the same thing in a row – I didn’t want the blog to feel like a daily YouTube video link, for example. A bit of variety centred around the blog’s theme of miniatures and gaming was my aim. Hopefully I have succeeded.
Posting like this has taken time away from other pursuits – I am typing this instead of painting some miniatures, for example, and that’s the main thing to keep in mind with any goal – if your time is already full, then you need to pick something to discontinue or do less of while you work towards your goal.
Congrats on the milestone, dave! I always enjoy your posts. What’s next after the final tray?

I’m not one hundred percent sure as yet! I want to take the Duncan Rhodes paints for a thorough test run when they arrive, but I realise now I may have to buy the miniatures to use, depending on how far I get through the last tray!

That’s why I don’t post daily unless I have a painting backlog I need to clear. I try to aim for one post every two days buy even that often falls down and becomes 1 or 2 per week. Its evem morseo why I am permanently behind in so many blogs i follow amd even my own comments. Time is a zero-sum game, unfortunately.

if I restricted the blog to just being what I painted I would be lucky to make 2 posts per week – although maybe if I spent more time painting and less time writing it would be 3 posts – clearly there would be a crossover point somewhere.

Well done finding something worthwhile to post on each day. Unless I’m painting a lot of figures, I’m unlikely to get one post a week. (I suppose I could make more posts on RPG’s I’m mucking around with, board games I’m playing, etc when I’m not painting or running my D&D campaign.)

I used to post about board games, but I was never happy with the articles I was producing and moved on to other topics. I like my board games but I find it difficult to cover the games in writing.

your posting may be inhibiting your painting, but are a big part of what has inspired me to pick up the brush again after more than 25 years!
I bought my first minis in so long just a week or 2 ago, I’m expecting primer to arrive today and I’m looking forwards to getting down to some painting this long bank holiday Easter weekend, so thank you!

Wow that’s great to hear! I have been planning to write a ‘so you have decided to paint minis’ article to help people get started – I should get onto that!

Well done on your 100 post streak. Love reading them. I am not surprised that the “fiasco” was your most popular post!

It definitely attracted not just regular readers, but from others who were confused at why the plans options suddenly disappeared.

Congrats on the milestone, Dave! I could never achieve it so I’d say the tradeoff with painting was worth it. I’m sure you’ll get back to the tray soon enough 🙂

Thanks, and I will definitely be picking up the brush more for the next few months!

I felt good getting a 10 or 11 day streak the other week!

I think 30 was my previous record, so I was definitely pushing myself with this one!

Congrats!
Yeah, blogging is a full time hobby. There are times I have to decide if I want to blog for the evening or read. It always depends on how many reviews behind I am 😀
Do you know where this setting is to be notified of these things? I realized I’ve been posting since mid-december and never saw anything like this…

I got the alert through the phone app and had to take a screen shot and email it to myself from my phone to add it to the article

Ahhh, that would explain it then. I tried the app once and hated it so deleted it.

Useless for posts, I can’t add an image to my library from the phone, it wants to turn the image into a post, so I email the image to myself and make the post from the PC as per normal.

What I like about the app is I can use it to reply to comments during the day, and the Reader works fine for liking and commenting on other people’s blogs too.

If I was connected during the day I might try that route, but since I refuse to have non-wifi data for my phone, I have to wait until I get into wifi range, which usually means I’m home, so I might as well use my laptop 😀
