A pair of witch hunters
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that recent Age of Sigmar armies have been quite evocative of the classic Warhammer setting. Cow heads aides, the new high elves Lumineth look like stylised High Elves, while the Soulblight Gravelords look like Vampire Counts operating from a new address.
Now it seems as though the Cities of Sigmar range will be getting some new models. They don’t look like classic Warhammer models as such, but they seem to me to be more connected to that setting than this Age of Sigmar. here they are:
I like both models, but when I look at these, and compare them to early Age of Sigmar armies like the Stormcast or Sylvaneth, these seem more conciliatory to those who enjoyed the Old World setting. These two have their own background, which honestly fits the Old World setting quite nicely.
If these set the tone for a new range of Cities of Sigmar models, then you can consider me interested. You know, when I’ve finished what’s in front of me.

I absolutely love the look of these models and I’m very excited for the Cities of Sugmar range if this is the direction they’re taking.

I’m kind of in two minds on these two. On the one hand I think they’re great, I often planned to build an Empire army back in the day and never really got around to it, and this pair would fit right in with that aesthetic. Plus it goes without saying that they’re really cool models. However they are very Old World and I still find that a bit odd in the Age of Sigmar. Dwarves and Elves have evolved enormously in the new setting but the (non-Chaos) humans are still stuck in a time warp, looking exactly the same as they did thousands of years ago when Karl Franz sat on the throne. I’d really like to see what ordinary people look like in AoS and this feels like a missed opportunity to develop that, harking back to the Empire rather than looking forward to the new setting. So, in summary, the WHFB fan in me loves them, but the AoS fan in me would have liked something a little more original.
That aside all this harking back to the Old World we’ve seen lately can only be a good thing for when they finally get around to revisiting my Skaven!

Did the skaven get any new AoS models yet?

Mmm… very little. Some Endless Spells, a bit of themed terrain and one new model, the Warlock Bombardier (which works perfectly as a Warlock Engineer with a Doom Rocket from 8th edition WHFB). Beyond that it’s been all quiet so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that when we do see something new it’ll be more in keeping with the old range rather than a reinvention. In principle I’ve got nothing against the redesigned ranges and new concepts for AoS but the Skaven were cool to begin with, it’s just the some of their miniatures appear to have been designed at around the same time as the wheel.

Yes, your post made me try and think of new skaven models, and I could only think of the assassin figure from Silver Tower

They look good to me. In fact, they look most to me like a pair of Empire Witch Hunter models released by some third party in resin with their thinner, more truescale-look but following the WHFB aesthetic. I look forward to the new range, but with some wallet-based trepidation…

The Old World is returning next year or the year after. Easy to make models that fit both settings now, less to print and stock later when their is another game system.
