Battletech is a venerable tabletop game that has been around for decades, in various iterations. The current version of the game has been in stores for a while. Recently the makers turned to Kickstarter as a way of quickly expanding the range.
It’s safe to say this worked. After a few days the campaign has brought in millions in pledges and opened up a plethora of stretch goals.
If you have been thinking about getting into this game, the Kickstarter offers a good jumping in point. I have previously been involved in Battletech only through the MaechCommander series of videogames, which I love, but it’s been a long time since that series saw a release. You can still play the abandoned MechCommander 2 though, and I would recommend it.
For me then the interesting parts of this campaign are models of units I remember from that game – and there are plenty here, from mighty mechs to the lowly power-armoured infantry.
If this catches your interest then check out the Battletech Mercenaries project page on Kickstarter.
Sounds good! 🙂 I’ve bought the Battletech box and Clan Invasion sets but not had a chance to try them out! I’m impressed with the mech minis though (and have found some 3D prints on Etsy that I’ve resisted)! I really liked Mech Commander even though I was no good at it!

Yes, funnily enough just making that post inspired me to boot up MechCommander 2 again!

Having played years ago I’m just dipping my toe back in and it all seems so much more complicated than I remember. Still, I’m thinking about this one…

It would be an interesting way to get models in one hit, though maybe don’t go as far as the $5,000 tier!
