As part of the 2023 Las Vegas Open, Games Workshop showed a numbers of previews, and due to time differences and a day off work, I was able to watch it live, which made for a pleasant change.
There were previews across a number of games systems, and the full list plus the video is available at Warhammer Community.
Two of the new previews caught my eye:
The first is this Cerberus tank for Horus Heresy, another beneficiary of the fiddly and expensive Forgeworld resin range being converted over to plastic. I am still sitting on the fence regarding purchasing this range, but I can see that if I ever jump off it will be an expensive fall!
The main even was the first previews of a redesigned range of Seraphon, or Lizardmen to those of us Warhammer fantasy players. The range Lizardmen range was converted over to Age of Sigmar as the Seraphon, and has received little attention since.
I have always had a soft spot for the army, since I enjoyed the plastics from the old 5th edition Warhammer box, and also it was the one army that enticed my wife to play!
Part of the new updated leans niely into an avian dinosaur aethetic:
Skinks on cold ones never really meshed for me, but they go well with these new mounts.
Plastic Saurus get better each time in my view, and these look great. I no longer have my Lizardman army, it was sold off years ago, but a box of these to paint is a tempting idea.
Finally we have the upgrade to the existing Slann model, another plastic movel hovering thanks to some cleverly-placed terrain. I am here for it.
You can see all the previews at Warhammer Community, both the ones highlighted here along with a new Kill Team boxed set, and new Warcry vampires, and more.
Gorgeous models. I’m a lifelong ttrpg fan who has never properly engaged in wargames. My direct experience has been limited to flipping through the pages of White Dwarf back in the day and catching the occasional convention game that was clearly advertised for novices. That said, they’ve always held a sort of romantic spot in my heart. At 53, I am low key waiting for retirement with thoughts of finally being able to dive head first into the hobby.
I’m in the US but was lucky enough to make my over over to the UK Games Expo in 2018. While there I managed to take a train over to Nottingham for a day, to tour the GW headquarters. The Old World, as I believe they are calling it these day was always a favorite setting and it was great to see everything on display.
As a casual observer, the product line is a bit confusing. If I’m reading it correctly it seem like aside from the main large-scale games for AoS and 40k that there are also some smaller titles that focus on skirmish scenarios with fewer models. What would you suggest as an entry level product (preferably on the fantasy side of things) for someone looking to dip their toe into the hobby for some weekly fun with a few friends?

I would recommend Warhammer Underworlds, as it’s a contained game which you play on a board. No terrain is needed, and 4 people can gather around a board easily.
The gangs in the game cover all the Age of Sigmar factions, with typically between 3 and 7 models per gang.
A player can buy multiple gangs or just stick with one, it’s their choice.
GW also release different versions of the core box with different models and boards.

All good – I think there are some gameplay videos either on YoutUbe or the website I linked. Games take 40-60 minutes in my expereince.

All of the new Lizardmen/Seraphon look good to me as well. If I have some extra time, I could see myself painting one up in the future as well!

The previews make me wonder what their Start Collecting box will be like. Just in case…

I’d love to have that Slann model for a Blood Bowl coach, but I doubt I want to pay the price for a model that sits around doing nothing! 😉

Agreed, it would be a nice sideline model but also a very expensive one!
