It has taken a long time – 35 years in fact, but finally the game of Warhammer 40,000 has taken a bit more notice of its own setting.
The tabletop may be suited to open battlefields that aren’t dissimilar to World War II, but the stories of the setting have featured many tense, engrossing sequences set around boarding actions. Whether repelling enemies, exploring a space hulk, or trying to capture an enemy vessels, stories of the Horus Heresy and Warhammer 40,000 are full of these stories. To date the game has been empty of them – with the exception of the occasionally highly styled gaming board.
That will be changing soon.
The recent 35-year previews included a new expansion book along with terrain based around ship-to-ship boarding actions – in space.
The preview article is lacking in whether these terrain pieces are compatible with the recent Kill Team space hulk interiors. Hopefully they will be.
There’s also a new set of bases coming
These seem like a less deep cut than the older Sector Mechanicus bases, which could be tricky to get your paint brush into. I used the older bases on my plague marines:
Without seeing them close up, these new Void War bases look like a practical replacement, and useful for anyone looking to base their 40k (or Heresy!) forces for interior combat.
The new scenery and bases was just one of the previews, you can see all of them at the full article on Warhammer Community.
Hmmm … maybe time give old GW a look-see
