Better late than never? I backed the Two Thin Coats line of paints Kickstarter, thinking they might miss their stated January delivery date by 2 or 3 months. Not to worry, I thought, I can use them to finish off my miniatures with.
Nine months after the delivery date, and with my miniatures fully painted, here they are:
The box and its foam insert work great, and they are currently my favourite thing about this set. I haven’t had the chance to use the paints yet though!
The foam insert holds up to 70 pots, and the full pledge was for 60 paints, so there’s room for more. The box they were delivered in is only slightly bigger than this box, so I would really like a second insert for my other dropper bottle paints.
Here’s how the bottle compare with other brands of dropper bottle:
They fit in nicely, and likewise all these brands fit in their foam slots nicely too!
With my miniatures all painted now, I am fortunate that stretch goals added a handful of miniatures to my delivery:
There are about 10 figures all up, which are all cast in white metal and look good. This will be a good start to putting the paints through their paces. Look for updates over the coming weeks!
Still waiting on mine. I didn’t go all in, because I figured I could order a few more in a few months after the launch. But like you said, it’s been quite the wait. Hopefully they are worth it! The bottles look thinner than Reapers? Does that mean less paint?

I should have said “shorter and thinner”!

Yes, they look a bit squat next to Vallejo but the difference in terms of paint is minor.

I forgot to say the important part! These are 15ml bottles, compared with 17ml for a Vallejo bottle.

Thanks, I’m sure I probably read that when the Kickstarter first appeared. For just starting out, it’s not too surprising that the paints would be more expensive per ml than most. If they were super successful, I imagine they can look at ways of decreasing the cost overall.

Interesting choice for a new brand to go under the main competition (Vallejo) to the big dogs (GW). I’ll be intrerested to read your thougths as well as some reviews as they come out…

Will definitely get the paints out as soon as possible (curse this wet weekend!). My feeling is that success will depending on their ability to get into the distribution chain to retail.

Well, they also have to be good enough to sell. Being distributed by Asmodee can only be a good thing for them. I wonder if this launch, plus things like the upcoming new Vallejo ranges (Xpress + new Game Colour), plus AK 3rd Gen being pretty good and more accessable could be pushing Army Painter’s new “give us feedback” thing..

Good point on the quality, I will be sure to break out my other paints while I test these out to make a good comparison as well as an overall impression.

Will be interested to hear what you think of them Dave once you get to use them.

As others have said I’ll be very interested to see how you find them.
Are these the ones that come 3 different shades to 1 colour, I.e. 3 shades of blue design to work well together for layering up? Or have I got that mixed up.

They come in triads for the most part, so I will see how those work together first, and then experiment out. or at least that is the plan for now!
