Two thousand, three hundred and forty-five. This is the number of painted miniatures I have now.
Zero. This is the number of unpainted miniatures I have now.
I’ve been thinking about this, and in every year since 1994 I have had miniatures to paint. No longer!
I’ll be honest; it’s an odd feeling. Some satisfaction – after all I set myself a 5-year goal back in 2019 to go this, and I’ve reached it in 3.5 years. So I went and I got myself a free trophy!
There’s also a bit of a what’s next? to my feelings now.
I’m going to take some time and get photos together of the whole collection, but that probably won’t be happening before August. Apologies if you were hoping to see a group photo sooner than that, but from a practical consideration I need to tidy up my miniatures storing space and get all the models where they need to be. The best way to do that to my thinking, is to have the storage sorted out so that as I’m putting everything away after taking the group photo, there’s spaces available for everything to occupy.
So my next goal is some tidying up!
I think it’s an impressive achievement, Dave, well worth a trophy! 🙂 A moment to savour and sorting out storage and planning the next stages sounds good to me!

I will try not to procrastinate too much on the next phase!

Amazing accomplishment. I wish I could do this but i seem to buy them faster than I can paint!

In many ways the hardest part of getting to zero was cutting out the impulse purchases and Kickstarter projects. Giving myself an ‘allowance’ of being able to purchase 1 new model for every 8 models painted worked well for a couple of years.

Yeah I tried a paint 3, buy 1 plan, but I usually fail miserably especially with 28mm figures

It’s not easy with no many cool new boxes and Kickstarters out there, and in some cases I found myself painting faster so that I could buy some new box I wanted. It probably took 18 months but eventually not buying things I couldn’t reasonably put straight on the tray to paint became a habit.

Congratulations, it’s an inspiration. One I’d love to achieve myself!

I’m super impressed with the completion. I have to admit I’m really impressed that you have an exact number too. It’s going to be amazing seeing it all before you when you do your photographs.

If you go the ‘The Projects’ page there’s a link to the last time I took a photo of everything, which was when I got past 1,500 painted.

Congrats! *insert trumpet noises* I’ve been cutting back purchases, but then were there is some new release bundle, I end up caving. I really need to reign it in though and start inventorying what I have and really need and can actually get painted. Lots of inspiration from your blog on this for sure!

I think the inventory genuinely helped reduce my purchases because I knew how many more it would add and what that might mean in terms of time to paint.

That is incredible!! I’m not sure how I’d feel about it, either… but looking forward to seeing the group shot!

I have booked in two days’ leave from work next month, because I will need a 4-day week-end to sort it out!

Congrats. I’ve come to the conclusion I’ll die first. I could sell or give away some stuff, but I think long and hard before I buy another miniature. I just have plenty, too many unpainted models. I also have bits. I bought a lot of bits for conversions and basing, which probably should count as unpainted miniatures but lets say it doesn’t. Again good work.

Thanks Muskie! Getting rid of some of my models was part of it, ones bought for projects that no longer interested me. I also finished with several boxes of bits and I agree they don’t count!
