Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

Classic tech guard

The tech guard are metal miniatures from Games Workshop that date back to the old Confrontation game in the 1980s. They are identified as a type of hive ganger, which I think makes them a precursor to the present-day Van Saar of Necromunda.

Like many models from back then, they are one part metals, but are supplied armless. Rather than use the weedy looking lasguns from the late 1980s, I dipped in to the bits box and gave them a mix of genestealer hybrid and admech weapons.

As with my other recent models, these were underpainted and then finished off with contrast paints.

Thanks! I think I originally bought these to expand my classic Van Saar gang back in the 90s, but didn’t like the arm options, so I decided to wait until I could get some I liked the look of. Only took 20 or so years!

Awesome stuff, Dave! I’ve got those in my own painting queue (once I finish Scaeffer’s guys) Great to see how they look with Admech and GSC weapons as well – I thought of using Admech but didn’t think of the GSC bits – so thank you for the idea! 🙂

Thanks, it’s good to know you have the same models too – I look forward to seeing what you do with them!

Great work Dave, they look great. I do like these. I much prefer these to the modern ones.

Yes, these models have a lot of character, and little details that set them apart from each other without being over the top

They look good! I recall that the hybrid metal/plastic minis could sometimes be a bit of a faff to assemble. Using the newer parts for arms and weapons has worked a treat, good thinking.

Thanks! I thought I was long past my days of trying to bond metal to plastic but I was prepared to make an exception for these guys

Those are great- the modern guns look much better on them.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Thanks Pete, I had to use a bit of green stuff but it all worked out!

Oooh, these are cool, and I must confess I’ve never seen them before! These proto-GW figures have a certain charm and they look great with some modern embellishments too. Nice work.
