Warhammer 40,000 stickers?

Panini is a brand instantly recognisable to anyone who grew up in the UK in the 80s or 90s. Their yearly football sticker albums are the source of many a childhood memory – including for me. Trading for that final, hard to get, Liverpool team badge, opening pack after pack hoping for those last two players in Watford to fall out. Good times, when you’re 10 and don’t know any better. I still have pleasant memories in spite of the inherent silliness of the activity.

I was surprised to hear that Panini have now teamed up with Games Workshop to produce this:

There will be 204 stickers to collect in the usual fashion, plus an additional 50 ‘hero cards’ (I don’t know what those are). This news comes via the Panini website where a corporate drone helpfully adds that “Warhammer and Panini have great synergy, as consumers actively engaged in the Warhammer setting and Panini’s core collectors are of a similar profile.” I assume that sounds more poetic in the original machine-cant.

Of further interest in the announce is that along with stickers Panini will also be producing a range of Warhammer 40,000 trading cards. This is interesting since this year will also see the release of a Warhammer 40,000 set of Magic: the Gathering cards:

The Magic set will be pre-made decks rather than cards in randomised boosters, but it looks like Panini will have that angle covered.

Interesting times. Panini doesn’t have much of a presence in Australia, so I’m not expecting to be able to pick up the album and stickers. However I suspect many GW fans in the UK will be reliving an unexpected slice of their childhood later this year!

I don’t browse the Panini website out of habit, so I have to give credit to the news hounds at Sprews and Brews, who spotted this one.

January 28, 2022 update: Warhammer Community have some pages from the album.

I collected the Panini Football stickers when I was at school, even though I had never even watched a football match. As for this collection, the ‘synergy’ quote says it all really. I hope people enjoy them, but not for me.

I’m hungry now for some reason… I remember their various sticker sets from when I was a kid as well. Probably don’t need these myself, but fun for kids if priced reasonably.

It has been such a long time since I collected any stickers I don’t even know what today’s prices are!
