Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

I knew you’d come crawling back

It’s official: the Cursed City box will be coming back to shelves in 2022. You can hold fire on those overpriced eBay copies as you will soon be able to pick up a copy for the regular overpriced figure rather than the ludicrous overpriced figure. Nice!

Jokes aside I am happy to see this. I had plans for Cursed City content that I threw out after the debacle of the game’s launch and disappearance. Why create content for a game hardly anyone can play? Soon that won’t be the case so I will dive back into the game itself. In the meantime I will continue painting up my box set for actual use.

The Warhammer Community article announcing the game’s return also mentions expansions will follow. It looks like we will be getting the fantasy version of Blackstone Fortress with this game. Clearly the reason for the game’s disappearance was that it sold far better than expected, and a new production slot was over a year away. I still find it odd that rather than say this, they decide to hide all links to the game’s pages (but keep them up!) and stop talking about the game.

Games Workshop haven’t confirmed the re-release date, but from the images provide the miniatures, board pieces, box art, and other contents are all exactly the same as the 2021 release.

I’m going to put this in my ‘good news’ column for the year. In fact I had been preparing a review of 2021 and has the Cursed City down as biggest disappointment. Not any more!

I had heard (rumour and hearsay only no fact) that there had been an Intellectual Property issue with the game, hence why they had to pull close to pull it. Now if that is true this is a sensible time scale for that to be resolved hence the silence followed by “re-release”

Of course, we don’t know if there’s any truth to that or if it was just an internet rumour. The bigger problem of course is in the absence of information and communication we naturally attempt to fill that void…
If there’s any difference in the box set content, we’ll have an answer to that at least.

I live in hope of some staggered release windows this time – I have hazy memories of trying to pre-order one and discovering even the pre-orders were gone within an hour. Must ring Firestorm and ask if I can pre-order a pre-order…

I was lucky and happened to be browsing my LGS’ website as they added the preorder up, I think they were gone within 30 minutes

I reckon they’ll do one of their newish “Guaranteed Pre-Order Weekend” jobbies for the re-release… not to mention having an insane amount of stock available after the last time.
