Explore fantasy art: Seb McKinnon

Seb McKinnon has become a favourite among many Magic: the Gathering players for his striking and unique art style. His art extends outside Magic, although I must admit most of my favourites come from art he’s done for that game.

Enchanted Evening by Seb McKinnon

In this night time art work, the scene looks dark while still containing plenty of detail. Not an easy feat, and I love the not-reflection in the water.

Growth Spiral by Seb McKinnon

This remarkable illustration appeared on a card that turned out to be a little too good in the game.

Balance by Seb McKinnon

This illustration for Balance hasn’t appeared in paper; for now it remains available only online.

Cuombajj Witches by Seb McKinnon

A great reimagining of an old Magic card, this started as a digital exclusive but was thankfully printed in paper at the end of 2020.

Viking by Seb McKinnon

A viking stares out to sea in this moody piece.

You can see more of Seb McKinnon’s art at his website.

These are really good. I like how Seb is skilled with evoking a mood in his work. A lot of these are quiet pieces that make you think about what is really going on with the subjects depicted. Thanks for sharing, Dave!
