GW attempts to rebuild trust

Games Works have taken a few actions building up to the release of Kill Team; Octavius

The first is a promise that no matter now many orders they receive, everyone who orders a copy will get that copy. That’s a nice change from products which sell out before people can refresh their website.

The second is that they have taken the highly unusual step (for Games Workshop, other companies do this all the time) of publishing a forward release calendar. The calendar is light on detail but at least demonstrates that there’s a forward plan of released for Kill Team over the next year.

Without using these words, Games Workshop are very keen to tell is that this Kill Team release will be nothing like Cursed City.

Remember Cursed City? Games Workshop are hoping you don’t remember the game that was released with a lot of build up, sold out in seconds, and then they refused to print any more ever for… reasons. Yet articles still appeared in White Dwarf, and the miniatures are now sold separately. There must have been ongoing plans, but these plans changed for… reasons.

Games Workshop are very keen to tell us it won’t be like that this time.

That is good news for people who are looking forward to the KT release. I hope it does turn out that everyone who wants a copy can get one.

They suggested it may be months before some people’s copies turn up if demand is that high.

Well, at least they are going to try to fulfill all of the orders rather than just saying, “Sorry, you’re out of luck.” 🙂

Yep, agreeing to make their newest games available to people who want to buy them is an improvement.

Yes, Cursed City is high in my mind but that’s not the only recent example that GW want to steer people away from remembering with this release.

To be honest, they are going to have to work very hard to regain trust with the massive shenanigans going on at the minute. To be fair they can say anything they want but don’t necessarily need to follow through with it because of …reasons.

That’s true, and I think for a lot of people they have a way to go after the past few months.

If I thought GW would do a proper skirmish level game system (I know, asking a lot from a company that really just wants you to buy their miniatures), I might get excited about this new release. That being said, Death Korps is a mighty draw. I still have over 3000 points of converted Steel Legion in a box somewhere.

The death Korps miniatures are extremely tempting, that’s true. In some ways I am glad they are currently locked in a boxed set I won’t buy.

Ahhh. It is good to see that Covid hasn’t dulled all of our cynicism and suspicion of Big Business.

    Wait.

    Am I just paranoid?

Nah Big Business does really despise long time seasoned gamers and is only interested in sucking in newbs!

I was watching a YouTube video where the guy had a copy of the new Kill Team was sent to him, the new book isn’t as good as the original as the units you can field with your original miniatures is limited, a new book will need to be got when the new miniatures drop.

I’ve also seen the Tabletop Minions take on this that one of the other commenters mentioned and…yeah, not sure how I feel about the new KT. But it’s nice that they’re at least letting people pre-order and that they’re printing to order. With how GW’s been getting on recently I still probably won’t pick up their stuff until the current IP fiasco is sorted out, but…here’s hoping they attempt to get some of the goodwill back that they had in 8th and early-9th.

The more I hear about the game the less interested I become with it. I’ll stick to Necromunda I think for my 40k skirmishes.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Warcry was good. Cursed city I got but not impressed on the pull support thing. So I’ll give this a miss as I have load of other games anyway

Sounds good, no matter how tempting a game is, if it’s just going to wait in a pole for a couple of years it’s probably not worth getting.
