Explore fantasy art: Greg Rutkowski

Grzegorz, or Greg, Rutkowski has produced some great fantasy images over the years, especially one featuring dragons. Here are a few of my favourites from him:

Dragon’s Breath by Greg Rutkowski

A dragon attacks a lone rider in this price, with the rider illuminated solely by the dragon’s breath.

Through the mountains by Greg Rutkowski

The cold and windy landscape is well drawn here, making me shiver every time I look at it. Glad I’m not in the party!

Apprentice by Greg Rutkowski

In case you were thinking there won’t be any character illustration in this selection, here you go.

Castle defence by Greg Rutkowski

This is my favourite one. The mood and composition evoke historical oil paintings, but the dragon looming above shows us that this is still a fantasy piece.

Grim Draugr by Greg Rutkowski

The above piece is from a Magic: the Gathering set, and shows an undead viking coming back for one last raid.

You can explore more of Greg Rutkowski’s art through his ArtStation page.

Everything here is fantastic. I think he’d be a great artist for bringing Game of Thrones to life with his versatile skills.

If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of his ArtStation page there’s a pic of the wilding army attacking the Wall. It would be good to see more though, I agree!

That is so cool! His Artstation is just jaw-dropping to scroll through. I really admire artists like this and not so secretly wish that I had their skills 🙂
