Scent of a Gamer

Middle Earth giant spider

Another classic metal model from Games Workshop’s Middle Earth range, this time a giant spider:

It’s bigger than a spider swarm and smaller than a spider queen, but this guy still sits on a 40mm base. For this one I decided to dial back the fantasy colours (except the eyes!) and take inspiration from the Huntsman, a large ambush predator spider which makes regular appearances in Australian households.

This spider’s ambush ability is based around hanging out in rocky terrain waiting to hapless prey to wander by. Here he is in his tub of basing material:

Tread carefully!

Very creepy! Take care not to mistake it for the real thing on your table!

  2. Well, the blue eyes make it adorable… And that’s before it begins to talk! Any household would be really interesting with middle earth spiders in it!

Great work! I’ve been staying away from any of the Middle-Earth spider miniatures because they are too close in size to some of the meatier spiders out there 😅

Thanks Steve, I have seen bigger than this in the house – one of the joys of Australian living!

That’s pretty terrifying! How do they behave, are they aggressive or do they not mind being shooed out the house?

They are mostly benign and will take out mosquitoes for you. They do have a nasty bite if startled though

That is great. Love the subtle paint job on him.

    Cheers,

Very nice job on this one, Dave! The eyes really bring it to life and at first, I did indeed think it might be real 😀
