Explore fantasy art: Peter Mohrbacher

Peter Mohrbacher came to my attention as an illustrator for Magic: the Gathering. However he grew disenchanted with his relationship with WotC and struck out on his own as an independent fantasy artist. These days he is best known for his Angelarium series, which covers prints, books, and more.

Phaneul, the Still Presence

This illustration invokes a sense of tranquillity.

Erebos, God of the Dead

This is my favourite of the Theros gods in terms of their art. The few twisted trees in the foreground show Erebos looming over the landscape.

Gadreel, Angel of War

The limited colours work so well in this price, with the white figure almost blending into the sky, and the red being suggestive of war.

Pharika, God of Affliction

Back to Magic again, this piece won an illustration award, and it’s not difficult to see why.

The Driftwood Cathedral

A building stands forlorn in a blasted landscape, a single figure waits next to it.

You can see more of Peter Mohrbacher’s art at Angelarium, or ArtStation.

The Angel of War is jaw dropping! Though the Driftwood Cathedral is not too far behind that in my book. Thanks for sharing as always, Dave!
