Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

New plastic zombies (and other stuff)

Games Workshop’s existing plastic zombie set is one of their oldest. It dates from the 1990s and if I recall correctly it was one of their first plastic regiment sets after the Empire. I think the first box I bought came with plastic movement trays as part of the set, if you can believe such a thing.

Now we have these:

The new zombies are more heavily stylised than the previous box, but still mark a great improvement. I might get rid of the twigs though. There more images as part of the preview, but this is my favourite pair.

A new set of fell bats had also been shown:

The last Cursed City update revealed that the box will contain rules to use all the figures in games of Age of Sigmar. That doesn’t interest me, but what I would like is the ability to use models like these fell bats in the Cursed City game. We’ll see if that happens, or whether players will need to homebrew some rules.

On a different note, squigs will now be available in cavalry format:

Is it just me, or is orc and goblin skin now being shaded with turquoise? It’s probably just me.

Warhammer 40,000 games were included too, as there’s a new Necromunda starter set on the way:

This set looks like a middle ground between the first set of the new edition and the much more expensive Dark Uprising box.

You can see the full preview over at Warhammer Community.

I keep being tempted to get into Necromunda, but can I justify it? GW stuff always seems just out of my price range, at least what I want to pay for it anyway!
My daughter has shown an interest in Shadespire, so you never know, this might end up on the table at some point!

I actually have a soft spot for the original plastic zombies… the new ones are nice but, I don’t know, the originals appeal to me more.

My missus has already put her order in with me to expand on her Legions of Nagash army. GW have been knocking it out the park with the new Soulblight announcements!

Yes, I had a large vampire counts army back in the classic Warhammer days, and these releases are very tempting!

Yeah, some of those new kits are amazing aren’t they? I’m definitely getting a bunch of those new zombies for one thing and I could see myself very tempted by some of the other stuff. As for taking it in Cursed City I’m similar in that it would be there or Warcry that mine would actually be likely to see the tabletop (although with a bit of kitbashing I could see the zombies as Necromundan plague zombies too…). With Blackstone Fortress it was easy enough to add in some extra traitor guard/Chaos marines/etc if you had the models – I’d guess it would be a similar situation with Cursed City – if you have some extra fell bats or zombies just add them to the game for a bit of extra challenge. I also wonder if we might see rules in White Dwarf for including the likes of Lady Annika in the game – and I can even see Kritza the Rat Prince as a playable “hero” through White Dwarf, given his background links to the city and Radukar.

Yes, I would like to see those two vampire nobles as part of the Cursed City game for sure.

Am so tempted with the new Necromunda box… although it is an expensive way just to expand my nascent Delaque gang.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

I didn’t look closely enough to see, is it just the gang box or are there extras coming for the gang in this box? That could seal the deal!

I think the new Zombies are great. Good value for money, very well designed and imaginative. I think they would work well with the Mantic Zombies, too.
