Neglected Wizard painted

Ann’s March painting challenge got me looking at what is left on my current try. The remaining figures from my Dark Elf Blood Bowl team fit the neglect definition of being models I have owned for more than a year without painting. But, the challenge represented a great chance to pull something out of my pile of opportunity.

I chose this wizard:

This is him as pulled from the box. What paint is there was laid down maybe 20 years ago now. From memory the red was a short-lived experiment to see if acrylic house paint would provide a cheap alternative to GW paints. It does not. These days the market is filled with paint providers and I’m spoiled for choice. At the turn of the century it was genuinely difficult to find a readily available alternative to GW.

This model came free on the cover of a White Dwarf issue, and I think I bought about 3 copies of it back in the day to get as many different wizards as possible.

Anyway, I challenged myself to give this model a one-hour speed paint, but ended up spending twice that long to get this result:

Those runes could use some tidying up, or a complete redo, but otherwise I’m happy with how he came out. I’m glad to see the end of that red! The base stayed as he was quite firmly glued in place.

Thanks for the challenge, Ann!

Very nice! 🙂 Much better than the red (even though I’m usually a red fan)!

As others have said, I think you really improved this model. I like the sculpt too. It has a lot of old school charm!
