Kotaku’s classic PC Games list

When I see an article with ‘best of’ in the title I expect to either be disinterested or annoyed by the list, and so it was that I clicked on Kotaku’s list of 24 classic PC Games.

However, I have to say the list is thoughtfully put together. The few (maybe 4) games which wouldn’t have made my own version of the list, I could see good reasons to have them there.

If you have ever thought about playing through some classic PC games, you could do a lot worse than go through the titles on this list. In general I would recommend remakes where those are available. For example Black Mesa is a great remake of Half-Life. Also There’s an extended edition of Baldur’s Gate II that is worth playing over the original. I hear there’s a Diablo II remakes on the way, but after Warcraft III, I won’t recommend that automatically.

If you do play through the list, be prepared to spend many hours in Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri.

Alpha Centauri… What a great game! The prototype system of units in that game, and the feeling those secret projects give you once finished are still unrivaled by anything that is done now…

Agreed, and I think this game is a great candidate for a remaster too.
