I have been looking at vortex mixer off and on for a couple of months. Usually I look away fairly quickly, since the price for a vortex mixer as opposed to a nail polish shaker tends to be a lot higher. So this video from Geek Gaming got me thinking again.
The product demonstration part of the video starts at 1:55 if you prefer to skip ahead to that. This one looks to offer reasonable value, and might get me using my Turbo Dork paints more often as those things require 2-3 minutes of shaking to get a good result.
For any readers in Australia, the mixer from the video above will cost us more than the £20 (of course!). I found it on Amazon.com.au if you’re interested. That’s just a link, not an affiliate link if you were wondering.
I won’t say I’m buying one tomorrow, but I have enough paints that separate too quickly, plus those colourshift paints, that it looks like a useful hobby addition. An indulgent accessory to be sure, but I like to indulge now and then.
I saw the same video and thought hmmmm….might just jump in…
Wow. Those are quite expensive in the States as well. Too bad, I’ve got the same problem with my Turbo Dork paints.
Yes, two minutes of shaking is often not enough with that brand.
It has crossed my mind as well. 🙂
I ended up buying one a couple years ago. Some paints are a real pain to get mixed. On the plus side, my little one loves using it, so it also was nice to keep her occupied for a couple minutes.
Should have said a pain to mix by hand. The Vortex will mix anything up pretty quickly.
that is what I am hoping for!
Sounds good!
Definitely thought about getting one, too. Vallejo are usually fine, but some of the army painter paints are impossible to agitate.
I read somewhere that one can get fairly good vortex mixers second hand from lab supply stores.
I think the one in the video is from a lab supply company that realised there’s a broader market for this particular product.
