Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

Plague Zombies

These guys are totally not poxwalkers, also, there’s an explanation of sorts for the colour scheme, or lack thereof.

Cast your mind back to 2003. Games Workshop released a campaign supplement for Warhammer 40,000 called Eye of Terror.

Part of this campaign allowed you to create and use plague zombies, and new custom unit. To help people makes these units up, you could walk into a Games Workshop store and buy a bag of sprues which included Cadian troopers and Warhammer Fantasy zombies. I added a few other bits from the Empire Militia sprue, and here we are.

18 years later I have finally painted these guys up. The skin was actually done back in 2003, using paints and washes that are no longer made.

I have a project in mind for these guys, which requires them to be photographed in as high a contrast as possible, so I finished my old paint job by simply mixing a black and brown wash together into a dark sepia and applying that to the models.

For basing I used the same Astrogranite texture paint as the poxwalkers received. The next time you see these models, this post will hopefully make more sense!

Hobby Bingo update

These models were kitbashed many years ago, and let me tick that box on the card!

Great work, Dave! I know the feeling of getting models done after long delays! it’s definitely satisfying. 🙂

Looking good Dave, funnily enough I kitbashed the same minis, but used Catachan’s. I used them in the Necropolis RPG.

I just so happen to have some of those zombie and empire parts hanging around my bitz cave. Once the Guard platoons are filled out a bit more I think some zombs are on the way.

At least I am not the only one who has projects at least 20 years old in the cupboard… I even have projects started in various different countries as I have moved around. 😦 good on you finishing this one

Thanks, I am gradually getting through things, but I still have multiple unpainted models which are 20+ years old. Still, one group at a time!

Those are great- I never knew about these. It was from a time when I had moved away from GW stuff so it is nice to see these now.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Thanks Pete, this campaign book may even have been the first introduction of Black Templars models, but I could be remembering wrong.
