Of all the heroes in this 2016 Silver Tower set, this one is my favourite.
He’s also the least ‘heroic’. I’m not sure if that’s related. The Darkoath Chieftain is a throwback to the barbarian of the original Warhammer Quest set. However this one is more chaos aligned than the previous heroic barbarian.
It made the approach to painting interesting, as this character isn’t exactly ‘with’ the other heroes, but he is still opposed to the minions of Tzeentch.
In the end I broke out the browns, especially the contrast paints, for this model. There’s a small amount of gold chasing here and there, but otherwise the yellow spot on his base is the brightest point of the model. The metallic areas were done by painting Black Templar over a white or grey undercoat and then taking a metallic paint to the edges. I like how this came out.

Nice. Perhaps more ‘anti-hero’ than ‘hero’. I love the base too.
