Once upon a Wednesday: favourite Magic art

I have made several attempts over the life of this blog to fond a way of talking about Magic art I like in a way that will be interesting to people other than myself.

The current Explore MtG art series is my current attempt. Back in 2016 I made the mistake of deciding to feature my top 100 Magic card arts over a series of ten articles. This, the final article, lead the reader to what is still my favourite piece, Cartographer by Donato Giancola.

I think maybe three of that final list would still be in my top 10 today, but that’s probably a good sign that Magic art is still looking good (at least to me!).

I want to revisit this notion of ‘great’ Magic art again, just through a different lens than a numbered list.

    Nice artwork.
Talking about MTG, any thoughts on Jumpstart, especially with the special themed artwork for the basic lands?

I like the idea, but the randomness was too much for me on this product.

It sure is strange seeing cards from the recent sets being immediately reprinted. Though I love how they put in Craterhoof, Elvish Archdruid, Mikaeus and that Phyrexia-Swamp; but its so much more hit or miss than a regular display would be
