Dungeons & Dragons & Magic

Magic the Gathering’s set release schedule for 2021 was released recently. here’s the whole thing:

The part that interests me most is the Dungeons & Dragons set. I will probably only talk about the others in the context of an art review.

People have asked about the possibility of a crossover of these two Wizards of the Coast games for years. Magic has recently crossed into D&D through a couple of source books to allow roleplaying in Ravnica and Theros.

Now things are heading the other way. I’ve heard a degree of negativity already but I have to say I’m optimistic that there will be some interesting cards in the set. Certainly I’m interested in the idea of being able to take The Zanahar as my Commander in 2021.

We’ll know more in about 8 months.

Replacing the coreset with this is a BAD idea. I don’t think the actual idea is bad, as wotc has been doing so much off the wall, utter crapola things that this actually seems ok in comparison. But my goodness, they simply won’t do anything about the whole reprint thing. A coreset was all about the reprints.

Sigh. Sorry. I’m just really pissed off that the promised “We’ll re-print fetches in 2020” promise turned out to be expeditions. Keeping the letter of their promise while absolutely destroying the spirit of it. You can ignore this, I’m just crying over here in my corner…

While I like the D&D set idea, I’m totally in agreement about the fetchlands. They have themselves plenty of opportunities to do a meaningful reprint this year and skipped every one of them. Apparently the announcement should have been that this year they would announce a meaningful reprint next year.

and even next year is only the enemy fetches. They need to do a reprint of the complete cycle and crush the price. I don’t mind if they do it in a supplemental set, but it needs to be in $4 packs…
