The SAGA Anglo-Danes were the first ‘big’ painting project I finished for the blog. This picture was published in 2013:
In the background you can see my old painting board, something I had quite forgotten myself! These days I simply use baking paper and throw it away once there’s no more space for paint.
This army marks a point where I was happy to use grass tufts, but still didn’t think basing material itself needed painting. The horror!

I don’t think you’re alone in being able to chart your hobby progress via the basing materials ans methods you use!

I think I still have a couple of very old models with goblin green base rims and a very basic approach to basing!

I really like them! Though the bases are far from perfect I think the color combination of the yellowish sand and the bright green tuft looks great, as well as the rocks. I can see very well why you tought you wouldn’t need to paint them!
