Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

Tray 5: almost halfway

When I came up with the tray concept and started planning things out, I had a good idea of what I wanted to paint on the first three trays, and increasingly vague ideas after that. Plans are for changing, after all.

With the fifth tray now in front of me, I have a better idea. At first I thought 8-9 trays would see me through my collection. Now, I think it will be more like 10-11.

This tray is basically the contents of the Blood Rage board game, the 2016 Warhammer Quest models, and some extras. Blood rage was an unexpected Christmas present, which has given me a job to do!

I wasn’t able to fit as many models as I thought on this tray, since I needed extra space for those Shattered Dominion bases. These will be added to the Warhammer Quest models as I paint them.

The Bones Black frost giant and the Arcane Ruins henge are visible at the back. I had to remove these from the fourth tray for space reasons. This has made me less likely to cram as many models as I can fit on a tray.

I have 105 models on this tray, representing about 18% of the models I have left to paint. I expect this will take 4 months for me to get through, assuming my current painting output continues.

After finding some old models during my recent sorting out, I couldn’t resist adding this classic devil figure to the tray:

Fun fact: when I started this process I assumed it would take me 8 months to complete each tray. The first tray took 7 months, and no tray since then has taken as long. On my original timetable I have until April 2022 to finish this tray!

Wow, that’s certainly an impressive amount of models on that tray. Even moreso the dedication to queue that length of time worth of models up at once. And then the fact that your plans to get all of your models painted seems to be working! Unheard of!

Cheers Aza, if I’m honest I think the main help has been buying fewer miniatures than I used to!

Can only agree with Azazels comment here. Impressive. Good luck.

    You’re a painting beast, man!
It’s such a treat to get to follow along on the journey. And I’m very grateful for the inspiration to start some tray action of my own. Keep up the good fight!

Thanks Fredrik, I’m glad you’re enjoying it and I look forward to seeing your own tray!
