Back in the 1990s, Games Workshop ran their Citadel Journal, a magazine published in-house but filled with articles written by fans. This kind of activity was the kind of thing that was missed in the years to come.
Yours truly was published a couple of times, providing articles for both Blood Bowl and Warhammer Quest. The articles in question were both republished in their respective compendiums.
The Beastman team seen above was something I was keen to revisit with the re-released Blood Bowl, which led to this update a couple of years ago. You have to keep up with the times, after all!
I had an enjoyable experience testing, writing, and sending off the articles. I can’t say I had a 100% success rate, with my articles for Epic sadly never making the cut! Games Workshop wouldn’t pay for the articles, rather they would send you a copy of the Journal you were published in along with some models connected to your article.
That’s why I had these models laying on one of the boxes I sorted out recently.
They were sent after the chaos Blood Bowl teams rosters I designed were published. I still haven’t decided what to do with them!
They should definitely revisit this, could generate a lot of goodwill for very little cost

These days it would probably work better as an online thing, but I agree, bringing back a fan-made corner for hombrew rules and modelling would be great

Thinking about it, isn’t this the type of thing their social media and Warhammer Community were made for? Fan posts, little bit of moderation and there’s your content for the day 👍

Yes, they could have a homebrew theme of the week or month, similar to the page they have up now with people’s painted Indomitus figures

That is a great find- nice to see your name in print isn’t it?
Cheers,

Yes, even all these years later I still smile at it

That’s brilliant. Learnt something new about you today! I loved the journal, especially the BB articles. I also always picked up the BB compendiums that contained all of them. I think my favourite all time articles were the 4th edition Norse army list and the later on halfling army list.
