Once upon a Wednesday: Civ V mods

This article comes from all the way back in 2015. I took the time to talk about some of my favourite mods for the game Civilization V.

My overall favourite remains the relatively simple mode pictured above. called ‘more luxuries’, it adds 9 more luxury items into the game. I think the makers of the Civilization series liked this mod too, as most of the luxuries were subsequently included in Civilization VI.

I never got into the sixth version of the series as much as the fifth. Even now Steam will happily tell me I have put over 1800 hours (around a month of my life) into playing this game. No regrets. The many mods kept me playing for a more varied experience.

Civ VI has a few features I would consider upgrades, but overall I prefer Civ V. I think that we’ll see a Civ VII next year or the year after at the latest, given that Civ V relased in 2010, and Civ VI in 2016. I will probably give it a try, at least.

I have to agree that civ 5 is excellent. Although I haven’t sunk as many hours into it as Civ 2, I far prefer it to Civ 6.

Same here – 2 and 5 are the games I have played the most, and my hours in 6 are less than 10% of my total hours in 5. I feel fortunate that there was nothing to measure the hours I must have put into playing 2!

God same. I’m sure Civ2 has to be one the games I’ve clocked the most hours in. Maybe only eclipsed by the N64 mario cart and Bond
