Once upon a Wednesday: Age of Sigmar displays

On my 2017 visit to Warhammer World, I was not thinking about the Age of Sigmar game or setting at all. It was still relatively new, and the death of the Old World was still fresh in my mind. Seeing this diorama immediately on entering changed that feeling:

I instead began to think that maybe there was something in this new setting. Sure this display looks like a take on ultra cheesy 1980s movie Flash Gordon – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The main effect though was a sudden realisation of how comparatively expansive the new setting could be. Over the years this promise has been realised as more and more has been added. In 2017 there were more promise than actual depth.

I get my Old World fix from Warhammer Total War these days, and knowing GW will eventually revisit the setting is good. Age of Sigmar has its own appeal though.

Couldn’t agree more, I visited Warhammer World in late summer 2016 and had exactly the same experience. Until then I really didn’t “get” AoS, there were lots of vague but enthusiastic possibilities but not a lot to really get your teeth into. Seeing that diorama really opened my eyes to the potential of the setting for the first time.

This is an amazing diorama and I don’t believe I’ve seen it before. The scale is just awe inspiring. One day I hope to make it across the pond to visit Warhammer World!
