Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

2019 in miniature painting

270. That is the number of miniatures I completed this year. By contrast, in 2017 I was celebrating at having achieved an annual target of 100, and last year I managed over 170 and was similarly impressed with myself.

Who knows what I will be celebrating next year?

I put this increase in productivity down to a number of things. The first and most important is wanting to get my collection painted and putting in the time to do it.

The next was breaking things down into trays, where I could take a bite-sized chunk of miniatures and just focus on those, instead of wondering what to take out of a choice of 1,000 miniatures each time I was ready to paint something new.

I have to call the the tray method a success as I completed not one, but two full trays of miniatures

I painted a box of zone mortalis tiles:

I have made a start on the third tray too:

I have to also mention this blog as a motivator. Trying to get two updates done per weekend has been a great motivator too. As has been the interaction with other bloggers (that’s you!) both here and on other blogs. I have to give a special thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post a comment – I am thankful for each and every one.

The updates aren’t going anywhere, though. I still have over 650 models to go!

You have done well this year! The tray method and being pretty well disciplined seems to be paying off! Looking forward to seeing the next tray finished” 🙂

That’s an impressive number of minis by anyone’s count! Congrats! I wonder if I’ll ever make it to triple digits in a year..

If you had asked me the same question 3 years ago I would have said triple digits was a stretch goal. I think the hardest thing in many ways is to pick other hobby aspects to spend less time on in order to get more painting completed

Thanks – I have the first week of the year off, and I hope to take advantage of the relatively cool weather to get off to a good start!

That is an impressive output and the tray idea is such a good one, it’s why I purloined it for my own use (though my board is considerably smaller) 😁.

Nice, it’s been useful to give me some a specific group of models to focus on but still maintain some variety in what’s in front of me.
