Miniature painting with Dana Howl

A couple of new miniature painting videos popped up in my YouTube suggestions recently. Unlike other such suggestions, this one was useful and welcome!

Dana Howl goes through some intermediate miniature painting techniques in a way that makes them accessible.

The first is on the concept of underpainting:

In this method you paint your miniature in monochrome colours to get a headstart on shades and highlights.

The second is connected to the first and looks at glazing:

The underpainting technique supports the later use of glazing. I have sometimes used underpainting, often more by accident than by design. The Blood Angels from my 2017 Space Hulk project were underpainted.

Glazing I haven’t done at all. I’d be lying if I said I was implementing these techniques this week-end, but it’s something I intend to incorporate over time.
