With some Bones figures I have a clear idea of how I want to paint them, with others, an idea comes in a flash of inspiration. If I have the opportunity I’ll pick up the brush immediately and get painting.
I painted this pair of fire elementals in about 20 minutes from start to finish. They made a nice change of pace from the more intricate plague marines I’ve been painting recently. With the samller figure I mised more black into the final coat than with the hound. I’m not quite sure which one works better.
Painting flames on miniatures is always a bit different, since I’m used to painting the darker colours first, then going for the lighter ones. With a flame effect you need the brighter (i.e. hottest) colours down first, and then lay the cooler effects over the top to get that effect where fire is brighter in the centre and darker at its edges.
