Sorry, I couldn’t think of a more interesting title here. It is what it says:
In the late 1990s, in the time of Warhammer 5th edition, I experimented with a lot with different armies. Wood elves were one, beastmen were another.
The wood elves never really got past the concept stage and the army never went ahead. I’d picked up some models though, including the metal wood elf scout standard bearer seen on the left.
The beastman army did go ahead, and was my main gaming army for a couple of years, before I sold it on eBay. This metal character’s sculpt dates to the early 1990s at least and he didn’t fit with the rest of the army. He wasn’t sold off with the others, so I found him deep in a bits box last year and decided to take mercy on him.
As neglected models, these also form my entry to Azazel’s June community painting challenge. I have many more old models waiting for their time under the brush!
Great work Dave – that Beastman looks like one of the ones from around when Slaves to Darkness came out, and sadly one I don’t own myself! Both models look nice, and quite a contrast between the two as well!

Nice painting. Both classic sculpts that have aged pretty well. I especially like that Beastman (and indeed, I think I might have owned one back in the mid 90s) and it holds up well despite the 2d style.

thanks! Yes, those old GW metals have plenty of character even today.
