Bard’s Tale II walkthrough part 10: The Destiny Stone

(if you missed it, go back to part 9)

The final dungeon before the final showdown with the evil Lagoth Zanta is here. You’ll find the Destiny Stone in the city of Colosse. However don’t go straight there from the Grey Crypt if your characters are ready to level up. Colosse has no Review Board, so head to any other city instead.

Once you’re ready it’s time to get into Colosse and get to the Destiny Stone

Don’t come here with more than six characters in the party though. You will once again need a free slot for an ally. Also, at least one of your party members should be an Archmage.

Your Master Key will let you through the iron gate in Colosse. Once through a mage will set you a riddle to answer before you can enter the Destiny Stone.

The answer to his riddle is “freeze” “please”

With this answer given you’ll be able to enter the Destiny Stone!

Level 1

Stairs out (N0 E0): takes you back to Colosse

Teleport 1 (N20 E6): the only useful teleport on the level, this takes you to N20 E10

The Mage (N16 E8): the mage desires an answer, give him “near” to be teleported into a large silent room.

The Dreamspell (N8 E18): in the silent room there’s another room with a Magic Mouth. Assuming you have been collecting the words from the Magic Mouths in previous dungeons, say the words in this order: SHIELD, MALLET, HEAL, STRIKE, DISRUPT. Not this only works if you visited the other Magic Mouths; it’s not enough to just know the words. Assuming you have done this, you’ll be asked to nominate an Archmage to learn the Dreamspell. It’s a useful spell, especially for this dungeon, as its out of combat effect allows you teleport out of the dungeon with no penalty. Also, if you leave this dungeon and come back, other archmages in your party will be allowed to learn the spell.

Stairs down (N3 E17): these take you to level 2.

The large silent room contains several teleports but these serve no purpose; head straight for the stairs and level 2.

Quick note: there’s no way back from level 2 except for the Safety Spell, which costs all the gold you are carrying, or the Dreampsell which you have hopefully just learned.

Level 2

I know, right? Where’s the rest of the map? You don’t need it.

From your starting point of N3 E17, go to N4 E18 and look at the statue.

Destroy D’Artagnan to grant yourselves access to level 3 via a teleport at N3 E18.

The other statues in the starting room do nothing.

So, why is the rest of the map missing? Well, those are all one-way doors, which lead into a vast area of darkness. If you stumble in here by accident, head south east where you’ll access a network of teleports that will get you back (sort of). It’s better to avoid stumbling around pointlessly. Just destroy the statue and let’s get this done.

Level 3

The final and trickiest snare lies here.

Don’t worry about the missing squares on this map either; you’ll never go there.

Once you teleport in, you just need to get to the teleport at N16 E19. This takes you into the snare. This snare is tricky and has several parts to it.

You’ll be teleported to N4 E9. From here head north and west, and watch out for the two teleport traps at N10 E5 and N12 E4. Go to the Magic Mouth at N13 E1. You can’t answer its question correctly at this point, so type in anything.

The Mouth teleports you to to N12 E9. From here, take two steps South and go through the West door to N10 E8. The answer is “Zen Master”. The Zen Master then joins your party and should be in position 1.

Now head East to N10 E13, and you’ll be teleported one square East and you don’t have to enter that area of darkness again.

From N10 E14 go South through the door, then head as far North and East as you can, to N12 E18. Another riddle, this time the answer is “gale”. You will receive The Ring. Equip this item to the Zen Master.

Now you are ready to begin the maze. Go south through the door to N7 E18. The maze starts here. You will traverse the maze seven times in seven different ways.

After each visit you will be facing a door to the north. Go through this door and be teleported back to N4 E9. Visit the Magic Mouth again at N13 E1, and this time answer “storm fists”

The mouth teleports you to N9 E14, and you can traverse the maze once more.

The directions are available in the manual that comes with the original copy of Bard’s Tale II (should you still have it!). They are also scrawled on the walls on that first section of level 3. No matter, here they are, and remember you are starting from N7 E18.

(go through the door, be teleported to N4 E9, visit the mouth at N13 E1, say “storm fists”, be teleported again to N9 E14)

Fourth trip: W S W W N E N

(go through the door, be teleported to N4 E9, visit the mouth at N13 E1, say “storm fists”, be teleported again to N9 E14)

Fifth trip: S S S W W W W W N E E E E N W W W W N E E E N

(go through the door, be teleported to N4 E9, visit the mouth at N13 E1, say “storm fists”, be teleported again to N9 E14)

Sixth trip: S S S W N N W S S W W W W N E E E N N E N

(go through the door, be teleported to N4 E9, visit the mouth at N13 E1, say “storm fists”, be teleported again to N9 E14)

Seventh trip: S W W W W W W S S W W N N N E E E E E E N

This time you will be teleported instead to N11 E16. From here, head up to N13 E15 and answer “arkast”.

You will now receive the final segment and a message telling you to seek Lagoth Zanta at the Sage’s Hut in the Wilderness. You also get teleported back to the Destiny Stone entrance. You’re almost there!
