Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

My favourite computer games of 2018

When I think of gaming, my mind goes to the tabletop more readily than to the computer, however I’ve played a number of enjoyable computer games this year, and it would be bad manners not to mention them.

Warhammer II: Total War

Technically, I’ve only played the Mortal Empires campaign map, and to be honest that is the way it’s going to stay. No slight to the game though as this combined map provides for hours of play and I’m only just getting started.

The main thing that holds me back here is the fact that a session needs to be 2-3 hours long to really get a handle on your campaign progress, and I don’t always have that kind of time block available. Still a great game though.

The Bard’s Tale

I’m only counting the first game here. I’m currently playing the second and it’s a bit of a slog to be honest. However the first game is a brilliant remake, keeping the spirit of the original while including lots of intelligent changes that keep the game playable. Highly recommend, and I even wrote a walkthrough to try and encourage others to play!

Magic Arena

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this one. It’s occupied a reasonable amount of my time, and encourages daily play. I can’t say I play every day but I usually get something out oft he game when I do play, even if it’s only for 30 minutes.

If Wizards of the Coast can manage not to stuff this up, it’s going to be huge.

Sadly, that last sentence is one that no one who plays Magic believes in 😦

Yep total war Warhammer definitely has the top spot for me. Still loving it even after the stupid hours put into it. I’m also really enjoying xcom 2 that I recently picked up in a steam sale. I’ve also been revisiting Colin McRae rally 4 & 5 on the Xbox.
Sadly that is about the limit to my gaming over the last year.

Yes I’ve had a quiet year in terms of the computer too. At this stage I only see myself playing the games above in 2019, unless something comes along to turn my head.
