Bones update 28: the giants

After a few months on the painting tray, I have finally completed the trio of Bones giants.

The middle giant is from the original Bones Kickstarter, while the other two are from Bones III. Painting them all at once was interesting as the improvements in detail from the first release to the third are quite apparent.

I had a few false starts and changes while painting these, but ultimately I went for an icy blue skin followed by fiery hair and beards. The armour and weapons were mostly plain metal, with more gold decoration foe the giant king.

Here they are again with an elf mage for scale:

Good luck, little buddy!

Very nice. The bones III do look like a big improvement over the 1st. I really like the giant on the left.

Yes, I bought a few models from Bones III and the improvements are most noticeable for me on the larger models.

Wow, great job on the paints and love the models. I swear I’ve seen that color scheme of blue skin and fiery beards before, but I couldn’t find the reference. I’d love to have those for a classic D&D game.

The newer giant models remind me of the old AD&D frost giants.

I was thinking that and the paint scheme reinforces that impression. Good job btw they look really good and love the diorama. I think the age is toast!

Great job painting these. The blue skin gives them a frost giant feel. But the models themselves don’t really say giants to me. They look like scaled up dwarves. A bit odd.
