Forgotten World Kickstarter

Fireforge Games have launched a great range of historical miniatures over the past few years, covering the 11th-13th centuries. Mongols, Arabs and Crusaders are all included in their range, among others.

Recently they released a fantasy themed box based around one of their crusader orders, but with a few fantasy parts included. This was obviously successful as they now have a Forgotten World project on Kickstarter to hep them expand into an entire fantasy world.

The box contents have a distinct Game of Thrones feel, with human warriors facing off against undead hordes.

That’s over 100 models in the starter set, with more stretch goal models promised, covering characters for each faction.

I like the look and feel of both factions. Here’ an example of painted prototypes:

This is one box worth of Northmen warriors. Fireforge’s historical boxes usually contain over 30 infantry models or 12 mounted, but for this range the numbers per box are 12 and 6, respectively.

Of all the backer tiers it’s the Early Bird pledge which gives 8 boxes of your choice for €120. This can be any 8 boxes, making for a quite cost-effective way to start a new army, whether this be undead, fantasy humans, or one of the other factions that may be unlocked depending on how the project goes.

I’ve backed the starter set for this, because both factions are just so damn pretty.

The preview images they’ve shown of the other human faction (who are a little bit Lannister-y, believe it or not) look pretty neat, and the orcs are just excellent. I’ve a feeling The Forgotten World range will keep me in Dragon Rampant armies for several more years…

I like the orc previews, and the peasants and zombie peasants are my favourites so far.

This one is struggling to fund. The models are pretty much low fantasy, Not-GoT models. They’re nice, but not exactly compelling. I’d have backed for a buck and perhaps bumped it up later, but they’ve now clarified that they won’t be allowing that (understandable under the circumstances) but it does mean that I’m out.

The lack of an Australian shipping hub put me off. I can probably just wait and buy them from War and Peace games, who distribute Fireforge here.

I didn’t notice that bit, though my similar …not gripe, but consideration was that I can just wait for retail (if they get funded) and get them for 10% off with free shipping from Firestorm Games (or probably Wayland, if I wanted to gamble on stock levels!)

I was torn on funding this. The main thing putting me off was the aesthetic look of the Northmen. I like everything about the sculpts bar the padded jerkin armour. Now the other human faction is a different matter. I would happily back it if they were available. I do like the undead element but I already have boxes of undead.
The box size also put me off a bit. As you said, they are half the size of the previous offerings.
I do hope they fund as I wouldn’t want them to be put off expanding their range but I’m holding off for the minute.

I had to do a double take at the box size. It also made me re-evaluate the value of the various tiers.
