Van Saar painting scheme

I have assembled the Van Saar – the 2018 ones that is, and I’ve been thinking about colour schemes. Here are the assembled models:

You may be thinking “isn’t it a box of 10, why are there only five?” but that’s the wrong question. The right question is “What happened with the assembly that you turned a box of 10 models into 5?” The answer is that we don’t talk about assembly, and also with this box, I strongly advise you follow the assembly instructions closely, especially for the torsos.

That aside, the radical new look of the Van Saar gang reminded me a lot of the Izzet guild from Magic: the Gathering. Here are some examples:

This is more or less how I will paint the Van Saar – reds and blues, with leather, brass and gold. And maybe the odd glowy thing here and there.

So, is Assembly kind of like Fight Club? 😉

On a serious note, you have to assemble AND paint these? I’ve always just assumed that all your models were one piece plastics.
If you have to put parts together, this just got complicated!

Some of the gun arms were three pieces – 4 if you include the shoulder pads!

Man, it has taken me almost an hour to trim and assemble just one of those. I’ve got about 5 done now. Part of the slowness, is trying to figure out how I can switch parts around to get some different poses.

I like the red, blue, and brass. I’d probably skip the gold. I had thought about a straight red and black color scheme, with silver bits here and there. Would go along nicely with their spider theme. But instead I think I’m going to mostly follow what they did on WarhammerTV.

Yes, they are nice figures, but fiddly to put together. Those head/neck parts defeated me at first and then the leg/torso combinations. Definitely a set to assemble one figure at a time.

Yea, I’m also sub-assembling them, so I’ve got all the small bits to each mini in it’s own bag. I should probably just glue them all together and prime them with an undercoat like black.
