Finished in time for Mother’s Day! I completed the base:
Here it is from another angle:
I was happy with how the base came out, but how to add the Fellowship? My original thought was to simply remove the models from their slottabase stands and glue them straight to the scenic base. However, this would make the display vulnerable to damage, and it needs to travel at least once.
So bases for the models made sense, but I didn’t want to cover up the display base with nine black bases. Luckily I remembered somehting stuffed at the back of my drawer of bases. What? you don’t have one?
The price tag alone should tell you this has been around for a while. The copyright on the back was for 1997, which makes sense. I probably bought them thinking to do a massed unit of Terradons for a 5th edition Lizardmen army. Instead, they will be used to base the Fellowship without covering the scenic base beneath. Behold:
And again from the other angle:
This way the Fellowship can be freely moved around without covering over the scenic nature of the display. Hopefully the recipient will like them as much as I do!
Very, very cool!

A very thoughtful gift and beautiful display/conversation piece. I like the solution with the clear acrylic bases and the overall mood the scenic base evokes.
