The next model for the Neglected collection comes from the mid-1990s and the original release of Necromunda. Hive Scum were players who could be hired and usually added something to a gang they could not otherwise get. In this case I assume it was the twin bolt pistols.
Again I gave myself 60 minutes to get the figure painted.
Here’s the before shot:
Here is the same model 51 minutes later:

The fact that parts of the model were painted proved more of a hindrance than a help. I’ve learend a lot over the past few decades, and the paint was really heaped on to this model. That made painted over the mistakes of the past a bit difficult, especially given the 1 hour speed paint limit. I kept the orange hair, but deepened the colour a bit and added some highlights too. I didn’t attempt eyes as I was running out of time.
He received a dusty black coat, but not a red right hand.
In the end I used a lot of colours on this model:
What a makeover!! Looks fantastic.

Nice speed paint job. Bet it feels great to have another mini down in a short amount of time! Anything you’ve learned in particular about the process of speed painting so far?

I’d say the main thing is working out the colour scheme in advance, but also the order in which you are going to paint the different parts of the model. Sometimes you want to do a while area at once, base, shade and highlight. Other times it might be better to do the base only, then pick out another area, before returning to the first to complete it.

Good advice! I was just thinking about ‘which areas to paint first’ the other night, seems there is no set rule for all situations.
