I may be a blogger, but I’m not generally a social media butterfly. I’ve never seen a reason to join Instragram before now.

Now however, I have seen the light – and the light is John Blanche’s Instragram:

It’s packed with images of John’s fantastical creations in all their glory. If you lie modelling I recommend you take a look.

Worth noting he is also on Facebook under the name ‘Laurence Blanche’. He frequently posts, will accept friends requests from any hobbyist and is very open to discussing what inspires his work. Don’t ask him for tips or how tos on your miniatures to replicate his style (way too many repeatedly ask this again & again so I’m sure he is bored to death trying to explain you that you can’t condense 50+ years of artistic practice into a 3 step WD paint by numbers guide) – I gather from the explanations he has given that he tends to work quite intuitively and improvisationally – the type of thing that is 2nd nature for someone is whom has put in so some many hours to hone their skills: easy for them to do, but nit easy for them to teach.

Agreed, John’s work is something I find very inspiring. Some good advice I heard once was “it’s fine to have influences, but develop your own style”, and I think sometimes people forget all those hours someone like John has put in to developing his own style. I can’t simply be copied through a step-by-step process.
