From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.
The continuing growth in the boardgames market has now reached the attention of the good people at The Economist, in time for this year’s Essen.
Their article gives a good overview in the recent growth, and of course the reasons for that growth. They also talk about the size of the industry in the US, currently tracking at $880 million.
The reasons for the growth of boardgames might be well-established, mainly their emphasis on relaxed social interaction, but it’s still interesting to see a non-hobbyist look over things and the conclusions they come to. I was amused by their use of Twilight Imperium to illustrate the article – a game I’d never recommend to someone new to board games!
