From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.
Okay, first: that name is awkward. If I never see another game with title: subtitle as its name I will be a happier gamer. Now on to the substance.
The yearly brand new game releases are over. Duels of the Planeswalkers is being replaced by Magic Duels. I’m assuming the Origins subtitle will be replaced as new sets are released.
Appearance wise this game is much the same as previous Duels games, which is to say far better looking than Magic: Online, with less complexity.
Magic Duels: Origins keeps closely to the upcoming paper set of Magic: Origins, and it looks like the story driven side will stick to the origin stories of the five featured planeswalkers of Magic: Origins.
What promises to the different as time goes on is that you won’t be starting from scratch with each year’s release. You’ll be able to keep the cars you earn (or buy) in the game from year to year, release to release. This Escapist article goes over some of the new features, many of which could and should have been on Magic: Online over a decade ago. But less of that.
This is an interesting new product that could signal that Wizards are giving up on Magic: Online.
