Longevity in computer games

I’ve written before about the notion of being a ‘one game’ gamer. Putting so much time into a single computer game that you don’t play any others is not something that only affects me.

Ars Technica has an interesting series of Steam statistics. The latest article has a table showing the most played ‘older games’ here defined as games released before 2012. Here’s the chart:


My favourite sits at third spot in this table, and I note that many of these titles are deep strategy or RPG games. Not all though. Counter-Strike does not fall into that definition, and neither does Bejeweled 2.

It’s an interesting chart that shows the computer games which stick with those who play them.
