Scent of a Gamer

From the computer to the tabletop, this is all about games. Updated each week-end.

Star Wars X-Wing gameplay with Sanctioned

A new YouTube channel I have come across on the recommendation of a friend is Sanctioned. They do video reports of X-Wing games played to 100 points.

As I write this there are currently 12 videos available. The videos are recordings of the game, with the players obscured by more important information – the ships being used and their status. As the game goes on hits to shields and hull are recorded, and destroyed craft are faded back so you can see what is going on. The commentary is entertaining and informative.

Above is an example of what I mean. The only downside is that you have to look at the table to see what actual ships are being used, or else know what each ship’s stats are to understand. On the plus side, if you don’t know, you can deduce which ship is which as you watch.

The forces used from video to video vary widely, and it’s nice to listen to commentary from guys who genuinely enjoy the game they are playing and can laugh at their own errors (ships often bump into one another!).

Here’s an embedded episode, but check out their YouTube page for more
