Talisman is one of those classic board games that you play for love. In terms of a modern board game, it’s really not up there in terms of rules, mechanics, or gameplay. BUT, if you are of a certain age you will love it for the memories. I played the first edition way back when, and I enjoy playing the latest edition from Fantasy Flight Games with my daughter today.
Fantasy Flight have done a excellent job of refreshing this board game. The board and game piece quality is top notch, the art is a very high standard. Ralph Horsley’s board is just stunning to look at. Another addition from Fantasy Flight is replacing the old card stand-ups with actual plastic miniatures. Once I saw those I knew I had a new painting project on my hands.
I completed this project recently, maybe a week before starting Scent of a Gamer, so I wanted to include the figures here. I followed the character art with most of the painting, though with one or two characters I went my own way. Playing Talisman with fully painted characters does enliven the experience though I find myself thinking what if the monster cards all had miniatures to represent them too…
